Overview

The Octo Varios 8 is a DC-controlled return pump, giving you variable flow control rather than the fixed output of a traditional AC pump — handy for dialling in exactly the flow your system needs.

Controllable pumps like this make it easier to fine-tune return flow for skimmer performance, overflow noise, and overall system balance.

Key features

DC motor with adjustable flow control
Part of the Varios range, aimed at energy-efficient, quiet operation
Flexible output range suited to matching pump flow to your plumbing and sump setup

Who it's for

Reef and marine tanks where you want more control over return flow than a fixed-speed pump offers — check the rated flow/head height against your system's needs.

Setup & tips

Start with flow on the lower side and increase gradually to avoid overwhelming your overflow
Clean the impeller and pump housing periodically to maintain flow rate and quiet running
Use the adjustability to balance skimmer performance against overall turnover
