Overview

The Vectra M2 is EcoTech Marine's mid-sized DC return pump — 7,500 lph on tap, with 6.5 m of head pressure and infinite adjustment in between. It solves the oldest problem in sump plumbing: an AC pump throttled back with a gate valve is still drawing full power to fight a restriction you deliberately added. The M2 just runs slower, quieter and cooler when you ask it to.

This is the second-generation Vectra, with revised input and output couplers designed around standard PVC, a new base, a tougher motor sleeve, improved thermal management and more ergonomic collars. Set it once, tune it from your phone, and let it get on with being the heart of the system.

Key features
  • Fully controllable DC flow — 7,500 lph at maximum, dialled down to whatever your overflow and sump actually want, with no valve throttling and no wasted watts.
  • Mobius app included — wireless is built into the pump, and the free Mobius app (iOS and Android) handles schedules, mode changes, status alerts and firmware updates.
  • Auto-calibration — the M2 can calibrate itself to your system, which prevents back-siphoning when the pump is turned down and gives you a true neutral flow condition in Feed Mode.
  • Feed Mode and Speed Lock — pause flow with one button while you feed, then lock the dial so nobody (including you, at 11pm) can nudge your settings.
  • Closed-loop modes on board — Lagoonal Random, Reef Crest Random and Gyre are all available if you're running the M2 as a closed loop rather than a return.
  • QuickCouple fittings and a rotating volute — spin the outlet to suit your plumbing, and pull the pump for a clean without cutting anything.
  • British Standard Pipe threading — sensible for Australian plumbing supplies.
  • Battery Backup compatible — the EcoTech Battery Backup keeps water moving through an outage. For return pump duty you'll also want the Vectra Battery Backup Booster.
  • ReefLink and EcoSmart compatible — slots into the wider EcoTech ecosystem alongside VorTech pumps and Radion lighting.
What's in the box
  • Vectra M2 DC pump with integrated wireless
  • 96 W power supply and controller

The M2 Barb and Screen Kit is sold separately if you'd rather run flexible hose or need an intake screen.

Who it's for

The M2 is the workhorse of the Vectra range and suits the majority of sumped reef systems you'll find in Australian homes — a typical four to six foot display with a decent return run, or a smaller tank where you want plenty of headroom in reserve. With 6.5 m of head available it copes comfortably with tall stands, in-wall installs and plumbing that has to go up before it goes across.

It's also a good fit if your return line feeds a manifold for a reactor or UV, since you can raise the pump speed to cover the diverted flow without over-driving the display. If you're running a very large system, or pushing water a long way, step up to the L2 instead — but for most reefers, the M2 is the right amount of pump.

Setup & tips
  • Run auto-calibration once your plumbing is complete. It's what makes Feed Mode behave properly and it's your protection against back-siphoning when the pump is dialled down.
  • Keep the intake side generous. The inlet is 31.75 mm and the outlet 25 mm — restriction and unnecessary elbows on the suction side cost you far more performance than anything downstream.
  • Dry-fit before you glue. The rotating volute will often save you two fittings and a lot of swearing if you plan the run first.
  • Set Speed Lock once you're happy. Find your turnover, lock the dial, and your sump stays where it should — most overflow stories start with someone giving the knob a curious twist.
