Overview

The AquaIllumination Hydra Single Module Hanging Kit suspends one Hydra LED fixture from the ceiling above your aquarium. Nothing sits on the tank itself, so you get a clean, open-top look with clear access for aquascaping, feeding and coral placement.

Hanging your light also gives you full control over its distance from the water surface. Grip-lock adjusters let you raise or lower the fixture in seconds, so you can fine-tune intensity and spread as your reef grows, or lift the light out of the way when you need to work in the tank.

Who it's for

This kit is for reef keepers running a single Hydra 26, 32, 52 or 64 who prefer a suspended light to a tank-mounted arm. It's a great match for rimless tanks, cubes and island-style displays, as well as setups where the tank rim or bracing makes clamping awkward.

One fixture per kit: if you're running two or more Hydras over a longer tank, look at AI's HMS rail and hanging options instead.
Hydra Edge owners: the Hydra Edge 44HD and 68HD use their own dedicated hanging kit, so this one isn't the right fit.

Setup & tips

Anchor into something solid: wherever possible, fix into a ceiling joist or batten rather than plasterboard alone, and use hardware suited to your ceiling type.
Centre it over the tank: measure and mark your anchor points directly above the middle of the display, so the light hangs centrally over your main coral area.
Start high, then lower: hang the fixture on the high side at first. Then bring it down gradually while you dial in intensity, especially on a newly established reef.
Manage the power lead: run the cable up and away from the water, and leave a drip loop below the power point so any water runs off before reaching the plug.
