Overview
The AI Prime Hanging Kit suspends your AquaIllumination Prime from the ceiling above your aquarium, with nothing attached to the tank itself. You keep a clean, open-top look and clear access for aquascaping, feeding and coral placement. It's ideal for rimless nano tanks, where a clamp-on arm can spoil the lines.
Its standout feature is the ball joint, which lets you tilt and turn the Prime to aim light exactly where you want it. You can angle it towards a coral that's been moved, favour one side of an aquascape, or square it up over the centre. Hanging the light also lets you experiment freely with height to balance spread and intensity.
Key features
- Ball-joint adjustment: tilt and turn the fixture for precise aiming and coverage over your corals.
- Nothing on the tank: the light hangs freely, keeping the rim clear and the display uncluttered.
- Adjustable hanging height: hang it higher for a wider spread, or lower for more punch at the centre, and dial it in to suit your tank.
- Brushed aluminium construction: sleek, minimal hardware that looks the part over a modern display.
- Made for the Prime: it's genuine AI hardware designed for the Prime fixture housing.
Who it's for
This kit is for anyone running an AI Prime 16HD who'd rather suspend their light than clamp it to the tank. It also suits the Prime Fuge 16HD, which shares the same housing.
- Rimless nano and small reefs: the Prime 16HD's footprint suits these tanks, and a hanging mount keeps them looking clean.
- Tanks where clamping is awkward: thick bracing, trim or tight rear clearance can make a hanging mount the easier option.
- Tinkerers: it's easy to adjust height and angle while you work out what your corals like best.
Please note: the Prime light is sold separately. If drilling into the ceiling isn't an option, the AI Prime Tank Mount or Prime Flex Arm clamp to the tank instead.
Setup & tips
- Find solid structure first: anchor into a ceiling joist or batten where possible, using fixings suited to your ceiling type.
- Hang it directly above the tank: centre the anchor point over your main coral area, then use the ball joint for fine aiming rather than relying on it to correct an off-centre hang.
- Start high, then lower: begin with the light higher for a gentler, wider spread, and bring it down gradually while you watch how your corals respond.
- Route the lead tidily: run the power cable up and away from the water, and leave a drip loop below the power point so any water runs off before reaching the plug.
